Feedback from hospital teams
These comments are from clinical teams and hospital staff I’ve worked with across the UK. I’ve kept them in full, as they reflect how the artwork is experienced day to day — by patients, families and the staff who care for them.
Royal Bournemouth Hospital — Children and Young Persons PACU
“The bespoke images James created for our new Royal Bournemouth Theatres Children and Young Persons Post Anaesthetic Care Unit are wonderful. They have enhanced the entire clinical area into an amazingly vibrant yet calming environment for patients and staff. We are very excited leading up to opening the area this year to our patients.”

Plymouth Hospital — UTC and Fracture Clinic - the new Dartmoor Building
“After being shown James’ illustrative work, images of his previous projects carried out in other hospitals and reading up on his portfolio, I really liked the bespoke, tailored, personal aspect he could bring to his art. Our University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust was mid-construction of the Dartmoor Building, which had two main paediatric areas, and I saw an opportunity to create something exciting that would align with our interior design strategy. Our Plymouth Hospitals Charity supported the bid financially, leading to meetings with our end users and discussing how we could add elements of fun through finding illustrations as an occupying activity, as well as providing the unity and flow of artwork from waiting areas through to consulting rooms. Our Youth Council gave the final nod of approval, and the artwork was ready. The installation went smoothly, and the end result I am really pleased with. The artwork is bold & charming, most visitors have a favourite, mine is the ponies in the snow. Patient feedback has been great.”

Kingston upon Thames Hospital — Paediatric Emergency Department
"The Murals in the paediatric ED have truly brightened the space, creating a more welcoming and comforting environment. They've been a hit with both children and parents, helping to ease anxiety and bring a sense of calm during what can be a stressful time"

Sheffield Teaching Hospital — Charles Clifford Dental Hospital
“The dental surgeries have come to life with the narrative artwork. The children love them. They are a great distraction from the reason they are there.'Each picture tells a story. So much thought and imagination in every piece”
