Vinyl Murals
Concept visuals demonstrating bespoke vinyl mural designs for hospital environments. Each project is designed specifically for large-scale clinical installation.
Vinyl Wall Murals
These can be a great, cost-effective solution for a mural project.
Vinyl murals are a practical way to transform large clinical spaces such as long corridors, lift lobbies and busy wards. I create bespoke illustrated artwork designed specifically for large-scale vinyl installation in high-traffic hospital environments.
While many vinyl installations rely on stock photography or generic imagery, my work focuses on murals created specifically for each hospital. Drawing on the local area where it suits the space, or on carefully developed themes such as nature, jungle or space, the artwork uses illustrated detail and narrative to encourage curiosity, engagement and positive distraction over time.
The "Zero Disruption" Process
This is a "Digital-First" service designed for busy hospitals that cannot afford downtime.
Off-Site Creation: All artwork is designed in my studio.
Rapid Installation: The artwork is supplied as print-ready files to your Estates team or appointed contractor. Professional installers can fit a large corridor in a single day (or out of hours), ensuring zero dust, fumes, or interruption to patient care.
Positive Distraction & Engagement
My murals are designed to be clinical tools, not just decoration.
Hidden Details: I include "Easter eggs"—like small ladybirds, snails, or recurring characters—hidden throughout the artwork.
Distraction Therapy: This creates an interactive "Find the Object" game that staff can use to distract and engage distressed children during long waits or uncomfortable procedures.
Client Feedback
"The murals have brightened the space, creating a more welcoming and comforting environment. They've been a hit with both children and parents, helping to ease anxiety and bring a sense of calm during what can be a stressful time." — Karen Timms, Paediatric ER, Kingston upon Thames Hospital
Materials & Clinical Safety
Vinyl is the preferred choice for Infection Control teams in high-traffic areas.
Hygiene: We specify medical-grade vinyls that are smooth, non-porous, and fully wipeable. They stand up to rigorous daily cleaning regimes.
Durability: High-quality laminated vinyls are scratch-resistant and protect the underlying wall from trolley damage and scuffs.
Fire Safety: All specified materials meet Class 0 / Euroclass B fire ratings for hospital corridors.
Technical Specifications
Fire Rating: Class 0 / Euroclass B (Corridor Compliant)
Material: High-grade self-adhesive polymer vinyl
Finish: Matte laminate (Anti-glare, scuff-resistant)
Cleaning: Resistant to Chlor-clean, steam, and hospital detergents
Lifespan: 7-10 years indoors
A Guide to Costs
Vinyl projects are priced in two parts: Design Fee (James Croft) and Production (Printer/Installer).
Design Fee: Calculated based on the complexity of the illustration. A repeating "pattern" based design is lower cost than a fully unique narrative scene with multiple characters.
Production Costs: Handled by your Estates team or contractor, giving you control over the budget and procurement process.
This separation allows you to use your existing approved suppliers for installation, keeping procurement simple.
Commissioning Steps
Step 1: The Brief Send me a photo of the corridor or wall, along with rough dimensions.
Step 2: The Quote I provide a fixed fee for the Design Phase (Concept to Print-Ready Files).
Step 3: Pencil Concepts I produce detailed pencil sketches of the proposed design. We refine the composition and narrative at this stage until you are happy to proceed.
Step 4: Final Artwork Once the pencil design is approved, I create the final high-resolution digital artwork.
Step 5: Handoff I supply high-resolution, scale-perfect files directly to your chosen printing contractor.
