Painted Murals

Painted Murals

Painted murals are ideal prestige pieces for feature walls.

Unlike traditional murals that require an artist to be on-site for weeks, I hand-paint the murals in my studio on specialist fire-resistant aluminium panels. This allows me to create highly detailed, multi-layered artwork that appeals to all ages, without ever closing down your ward or corridor.

The "Zero Disruption" Process

By creating the artwork off-site, we eliminate the noise, fumes, and logistical headaches of having scaffolding and painters in a live clinical environment. The finished panels are simply delivered to the hospital and installed by your Estates team or contractors.

Positive Distraction & Engagement

My murals are designed to be clinical tools, not just decoration.

  • Hidden Details: I include "Easter eggs"—like small ladybirds, snails, or recurring characters—hidden throughout the artwork.

  • Distraction Therapy: This creates an interactive "Find the Object" game that staff can use to distract and engage distressed children during long waits or uncomfortable procedures.

Client Feedback

"The surgeries have come to life with the artwork. The children love them—a great distraction from why they are there. Every piece has so much thought and imagination." — Christine Bennett, Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Sheffield

Materials & Clinical Safety

Safety and longevity are just as important as the artwork itself.

  • Fire Safety: I paint on specialist aluminium panels which carry a zero fire rating, meeting the strict requirements of NHS fire officers and building regulations.

  • Infection Control: Every mural is sealed with a tough, anti-graffiti varnish. This makes the surface non-porous, fully wipeable, and resistant to strong hospital cleaning fluids.

  • Guarantee: The varnish is guaranteed for over 20 years, meaning the artwork will look as vibrant in a decade as it does today.

A Guide to Costs

Every project is unique, and pricing is calculated based on two main factors: Scale and Complexity.

  • Scale (Size): Murals can range from small "accent" panels (e.g., 60cm x 60cm) to large-format feature walls (e.g., 2m x 1m or larger). Larger areas naturally require more materials and time.

  • Complexity (Detail): A simple scene with a single character will cost less than a highly detailed "narrative" scene filled with hidden animals and complex backgrounds.

I am happy to provide a range of options to suit your budget, from simple focal points to fully immersive scenes.

Commissioning Steps

Step 1: Initial Discussion We discuss the space via email or phone. If you can send a photo of the wall, I can often give initial advice immediately.

Step 2: Measurement & Quote For local projects, I can conduct a site visit. For projects further afield, I can work from your Estates team's measurements. I then provide a fixed quote.

Step 3: Design Concept I produce detailed pencil drawings of the composition. We refine these until you are 100% happy with the narrative and layout.

Step 4: Creation I paint the murals in my studio, applying the layers of acrylic paint and the final protective varnish.

Step 5: Delivery & Installation I deliver the finished panels to your site. Your Estates team or approved contractor then installs them (typically by screwing or glueing the lightweight panels to the wall). I am available to consult with the installers to ensure a perfect finish.
